Heritage Days / 150th Updates.Caputured in a Heritage Days concept the 150th Year celebrations, events and projects are many fold with appeal for not only local residents but also the many visitors. For you to become a vital part of this history making year the web site has ways to facilitate your involvement by contributing “Your Stories” and “Your Predictions.”

“Picture Show” Series.“Picture Shows” will be offered on an alternate months schdule throughout the 150th Year. This project is a method of soliciting, electronically archiving and sharing the growing collection of historical photographs of the Gibraltar Historical Association.

Plein Air Art Festival & 150thThe Plein Air Art Festival will provide many events and activities starting July 21st. Saturday June 26th will offer an especially captivating atmosphere to blend with the 150th. For instance: for the 150th,on Friday, 7/25 at 4:30 Peninsula Players will do selections from Noel Cowards “Hay Fever”, the PPs original 1935 producition in Fish Creek Park, the original site and birth place of the Peninsula Players, the oldest in-residence summer theatre in America - good neighbors all these year

Hay Fever - Peninsula Players BirthPeninsula Players will present an excerpt from Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, the inaugural Players production from 1935, at the Fish Creek Park, across the name sake Fish Creek stream from in the original location, behind the Bonnie Brook Cottage/Motel in Fish Creek (now the Fish Creek Park). This event will be a FREE / complementary Sesquicentennial Celebration event. TIME: 4:30PM

Civil War SingersThe costumed Civil War Singers have performed around the United States bringing music and songs from the mid 1800s to the delight of audiences. On Saturday,from 2:00 - 4:00PM, the Civil War Singers will stroll through Fish Creek offering spontaneous songs. Watch for them; they will add to our festive atmosphere we are sure.

150th Pie Shoppe, and Exhibit HallPie and beverages, commemorative sale items, historical exhibits, music from by-gone eras can be experienced at the Old Town Hall building from 10:00AM. To pay homage to our local fruit industry history Sweetie Pies, a long established fixture in the culinary “Pie Circles” will provide cherry, apple and other fruit pies by the slice, for purchase. A portion of the sale price will be donated to the Gibraltar Historical Association. Commemorative items will be on sale.

Ice Cream Social - Top Of the Hill ShopsAn Ice Cream Social is available to visitors to the Top of the Hill Shops on Saturday, July 26, in keeping with the 150th Year of Celebrations. Free Trolley Rides to Park & Ride Lots and around Fish Creek will be available from the Top of the Hill parking lot, from 9:30 - 4:30.

Park & Ride on the TrolleyTrolley Rides (FREE) will be for visitors use from 9:30 to 5:00 for 150th and Plein Air activities. Just park your car at any of the Park and Ride lots north of Fish Creek, or in the village,at the Top of the Hill Shop of at the School Auditoriums Antique Show and ride the Trolley circuit.

Cherry Land A’s Auto Show...the ’30s.As part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year Celebrations and in cooperation with the Gibraltar Historical Association vintage automobiles will be on display arroud Fish Creek for visitors and local folks in Fish Creek. The automobiles will, no doubt, bring back many memories and educate us on the fine styles of our transportation history that were wittnessed in gone-by years in Fish Creek. The event starts at 11:00AM and closes at 4:00PM.

Cars of TodayFrom 10:00 to 4:00 the Top of the Hill Shops & the 150th will offer a contrast to the antique cars at Noble Square by featuring Cars of Today in keeping with the 150th theme of Celebrating 150 Years Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Local Auto Dealers will offer, for inspection, cars at the cuttig edge of the todays market place ....draw your comparisons to the Model T Cherryland Auto Show cars in Noble Square from Yesterday eras.

“A House in Mourning”, Noble House DisplayFeaturing Customs of Victorian Funerals the Nobel House staff will have on display and offer experiences that families provided for deceased loved ones in days gone by. WhadYa Know - live radio at its best.WI Public Radio (WPR)and Michael Feldman will be at the Door County Auditorium on Saturday morning, at 9:30AM to broadcast live. Whad We Know is that he will guide the morning in an entertaining fashion through the many Heritage Days celebrations, stories from the audience from Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Ticket are available from the Door County Auditorium.

“Talking Tombstones”In cooperation with the Friends of Peninsula State Park and the Gibraltar Historical Association the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year Celebration will offer a day when costumed folks will be grave side to offer historical recollections of those interred there, in memorium, of our deceased history makers who have left us much to talk about. Time: 10:00AM - 12:00. Place: Bossomberg Cemetary, Peninsula State Park. Suggested, free will offering, $2.00.

150th Barn Dance & “Fly-in.”As part of the 150th, on August 9th, at 6:30PM, The Sugar on the Floor Barn Dance Orchestra will be featured for our good old fashion barn dance. Join us in the Barn at the Settlement Courtyard Inn grounds, Hwy 42 1/3 mile south of Fish Creek for this event that was a fun-filled evening last year at another barn. We like barns! Dance instructions will be part of the evening. Dance starts at 6:30, ends 9:30PM. Weather permitting an “ultra-light” plane will be demonstrated, as an added feature

“The Tales of Twin Lighthouses”Tales of Twin Lighthouses...At 7:30 PM join us at the Gibraltar Fire Station. Enjoy a presentation on the history of navigator protection X 2 through the history of our twin Township Lighthouses. Personable Captain Joel Blahnik will present this popular and informative history as part of the Gibraltar Talks Series sponsored by the Gibraltar Historical Association. A Painted History of Fish Creek - Encore!Based on the excellent response from viewers that were able to experience Andrea Kinsey-Jauquettes Painted History of Fish Creek in May and June of 2008 and encore presentation has been arranged for this Fall, September 5 through the 30th during open hours at Door County Auditorium.

“Radio Stories” & GHA Annual Meeting Starting at 7:30 PM, the Gibraltar Historical Association invites all to attend the annual business and progress report meeting. A special treat will be the program for the evening offering “Radio Stories“ authored by the late Duncan Thorp, a noteworthy historical contributor to Fish Creek’s history.

150th Concert - Curly’s Vacation Home.Note to work arround the Packer game on Sunday we have changed the performance to SATURDAY, at 6:30PM, September 13th, The Hartland Community Orchestra has graciously offered to visit the Fish Creek area, as they have many other communities in Wisconsin, to help futher community spirit through very entertaining music performed by their concert orchestra. OK Dance Band in concert.From 2:00 - 4:00, on a Fall Saturday, September 27th, in the midst of the Fish Creek “Inside Outside Sale” with Fall colors hinting harvest time, in Noble Square Park...the 150th will feature soothing musical sounds from yester-year....Orv Konop and his OK Dance Band will be playing music from the great bands of the 1940s.
