Heritage Days / 150th Updates.   1/1/2008 –12/31/2008 at 150th Web Site: www.Gibraltar150.org.
The 150th Year of Heritage Days will be celebrated by blending many traditional events with many other activities that have been created especially for this special mildstone year. We hope to wrap this year into a cohesive Sesquicentennial / 150th theme of “Heritage Days” to express pride in the accomplishments of our YESTERDAYS, the peace and charm of our TODAYS and the promise and hope for our TOMORROWS. For you to become a vital part of this history making year the web site has ways to facilitate your involvement by contributing “Your Stories” and “Your Predictions.” Also, we ask that you join in by contributing photographs from your personal collections by bringing photos, old and not so old, to the Town Information Office for scanning and archiving.

“Picture Show” Series.   1/2/2008 –12/31/2008 at Gibraltar Town Center Conference Room.
As a Sesquicentennial / 150th commemorative project the Picture Show series will lay the ground work for instutionalizing a process for years to come to not only collect and share historically significant photos from yesterday, today and tomorrow but also create a means to digitally archive these collections. Donors are encouraged to contribute photos from personal collections by having items electronically scanned and archieved at the Sesquicentennial Offices located in the Gibraltar Town Offices during 2008. Walking Tour,Selfguided, Fish Creek   2/8/2008 –12/31/2008 at Fish Creek
“A Self Guided Tour of Historical Fish Creek” booklet will be offered for sale at the Nobel House Museum, the Fish Creek Information Center, and at various business locations. Cost of the Guides will be $2.00. The guide book contains informative narratives and sketches of historical buildings by Mr. Del Carson a that will help make your walk memorable. A complementary “History of Fish Creek Development“ will be included. The Guide books are re-issued through the cooperation of the Fish Creek Civic Association, the Gibraltar Historical Association and the Sesquicentennial 150th Committee of the Township of Gibraltar.

Noble House Tours, Circa 1875.   5/12/2008 –10/18/2008 at Nobel House Museum, Nobel Square, Fish Creek.
Mid-May – Mid-Oct. Step into the past by touring the Noble House, Circa 1875, with a knowledgeable docent. Highlights of Fish Creek life in the late 1800s as lived by the Alexander Noble Family. Period room settings and many original artifacts.
Mid-June-Mid –Oct. Tuesdays-Sunday. 12:00-5:00 P.M. Admission is $3 for Adults, $1 for Children. ( Saturdays only Mid-May-Mid –June.)

“A Night At The Museum”, Noble House.   6/1/2008 –10/31/2008 at Nobel House, Nobel Square, Fish Creek
As part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th,...Get into the spirit with a Candlelight Tours of Historic Noble House Museum after dark. New this season: “A Night At The Museum.” Tours offered on various nights during June –October.Admission is $4 Adults, $2 for Children. Dates and times listed on the sign out front.

Antique Show - 34th Annual   7/24/2008 –7/26/2008 at Gibraltar High School
Adding another Heritage Day Celebration to the Sesquicentennial Year, Fish Creek’s good neighbors, the Sister Bay Lions Club will again bring for your enjoyment many new selections of “old history” keepsakes for viewing and collection. As in past years Gibraltar High School will be the host site for this well received event.
Appearing on Saturday of this weekend in Fish Creek, the Cherryland Auto Show will bring classic forms of motor transportation for viewing and wonderment to help all recall the years past. And, also on Satureday don’t forget the Civil War Singers will be appearing in Fish Creek as another part of this weekend of Heritage Day Celebrations for the 150th.

A sampling: Quick-Paint in the Park - Saturday, July 26 | 9-11am
Clark Park, at downtown Fish Creek’s marina. Our featured artists will be joined by artists from the community in Door County’s largest plein air paint-out. At 9am, the horn will sound, giving artists two hours to complete a painting. Visitors are invited to watch the painters in action. Paintings by our 40 featured artists will be displayed in the park, on the artists’ easels, from 11:15 to 11:45. Then the live auction begins! This is a fast and lively event giving you the opportunity to view a painting from start to finish, and bring it home with you!

Even kids can try plein air painting from 9-11am in Clark Park. $5 includes all their supplies and a little guidance.

Opening Reception & Exhibit - Saturday, July 26 | 6-8pm
The Door County Plein Air Festival exhibit opens to the public. Paintings sold at the Gala will be replaced with fresh, new paintings, for sale at fixed price. Join artists for wine, hors d’oeuvres, and live violin music by Carol Christensen. The exhibit and sale of paintings will continue in Peninsula Art School’s Guenzel Gallery through August 2. Free and open to the public Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

Hay Fever - Peninsula Players Birth   7/25/2008 at Fish Creek Park,
Did you know the Penisula Players Theatre was born in Fish Creek? In commemoration of the founding history for the Peninsula Players Theatre and the historical contribution to Fish Creek and the Town of Gibraltar...the Players will present a replay excerpt from their premiere performance - Hay Fever written by Noel Coward in 1935. To add to the authenticity of this occassion: the playlet will to presented in the Fish Creek Park now adjacent to the site of the former Bonnie Brooke Motel - and located across from the entrance to the Wisconsin State Park, Peninsula Park entrance. This a FREE event. Remember to bring a blanket for a seat on the naturally slopping hill of our outdoor ampitheatre beside the creek. Hopefully there will be some water in the “Bonnie Brooke” creek, now known as the Fish Creek.

Civil War Singers   7/26/2008 at Strolling around Fish Creek
For ofu 150th, The Civil War Singers will be strolling around town offering a musical atmosphere as part of a special weekend for Fish Creek. You will find the Civil War Singers amongst: The Annual Antique Show will be held at the Gibraltar High School. The Cherryland Model T Autos will be at the Noble Square and “Cars of Today” will offer a transportation contrast at the Top of the ’ill Shops’ Ice Cream Social. If that is not enough the weekend will also offer the culmination of the Plein Air Art Festival. And stop at the Old Town Hall to see a pictoral Historic Photo Exhibit in conjunction with the Olde Pie Shoppe (fruit pies for sale) at the Old Town Hall, in Fish Creek. And...Ride the FREE Trolley around the circuit to events and Park and Ride lots - watch for P&R signs. Come Celebrate 150 Years...Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

Ice Cream Social - Top Of the Hill Shops   7/26/2008 at Top Of the Hill Shops & Spring Road & F
Adding to the full calendar of activities for Saturday, July 26th, the Top of the Hill Shop merchants will offer an “Ice Cream Social” oasis for people to cool off and relax. All the stores are open and air conditioned. To help visitors get around the Fish Creek area a Park and Ride Trolley will be offering a FREE Trolley riding circuit to recreate a by-gone era. Rides go from the Top of The Hill to the Antique Show, at the Gibraltar Schools, back into Fish Creek, out to the Orchard Country and Settlement Shops and points South....and around...and around from 9:30AM to 4:30PM.

Visitors came and still come to Gibraltar Towship in a variety of automobiles. The Top of the Hill Shops will have cars of Today for inspection in conjunction with their Ice Cream Social and other celebration activities taking place on the Top of the Hill Shops on the north end of Fish Creek. Park at one of the Park and Rid lots or any where and then Ride a FREE Trolley to the Top of the Hill Shops for the fun; or park your car at the Top...and trolley ride on to the many other activities around the Town of Gibraltar Township during this Plein Air weekend.

Connect with the Settlement Shops, Lautenbach’s Orchard County and Fish Creek’s old town, the Top of the Hill Shops and the Gibraltar High School site for the Antique Show... a circuit ride to eas traffic, parking and to be E-friendly. Noble Square will have the Cherry Land Auto Club’s Model Ts on display. The Plein Air Quick Paint and Auction will be in Clark Park, the Old Town Hall will have am Historic Pictoral Exhibit and Olde Pie Shoppe and Commemorative Sale. The Civil War Singers will stroll around all events offering music. And the Top of the Hill Shops will have an Ice Cream Social, “Cars of Today” for visitors....all on the Trolley-riding circuit.

Cherry Land A’s Auto Show...the ’30s.   7/26/2008 at Nobel Square, historical settings in Fish Creek.
Cherry Land A’s Auto Showcase features Transportation of the 1930’s. The event starts at 11:00AM and closes at 4:00PM. Saturday, July 26th.
Vintage Cars will be on display in the historical settings of Fish Creek, Noble Square. Classic automobiles will add to the enjoyment of Fish Creek with its July walking weather in full tilt. How appropriate to bring back the cars that were part of the Fish Creek scene over its history as a vacation destination. Sponsored by the Gibraltar Historical Association Free Will donations Appreciated.
Don’t forget to bring your photos and stories that can be added to the collections being sought for our 2008 efforts to impove on the history picture of Fish Creek and the Gibraltar area communities. 150th Pie Shoppe, and Exhibit Hall   7/26/2008 at Old Town Hall -Spruce & Maple Streets, Fish Creek.
Starting at 10:00AM...to pay homage to our local fruit industry history Sweetie Pies, a long established local fixture in the culinary “Pie Circles” will provide cherry, apple and other fruit pies by the slice, for purchase at our Ses1uicentennial “Pie Shoppe” and Exhibition Hall. ’adding to the Shoppe’s ambiance exhibits depicting the rich history of the Town of Gibraltar and Fish Creek will be on display. In addition, Sesquicentennial 150th commemorative items such as cups, hats, historical books along with shirts for men and women, post cards depicting “Today and Yesterday” as well as commemorative Nobel House walk-way bricks will be offered for sale. Music from by-gone eras will provide and authentic antiquated audio nostalgia.

Park & Ride on the Trolley   7/26/2008 at Hwy 42 north, old Fish Creek, Top o the Hill Shops
Trolley Rides (FREE) will be for visitors use from 9:30 to 5:00 for 150th and Plein Air and other activities on Saturday, July 26th. Park your car at any of the Park and Ride lots(watch for P&R signs) north of Fish Creek, or in the village,or at the Top of the Hill Shops or at the School Auditorium’s Antique Show and ride the Trolley circuit. Save gas, time and be E-friendly while having fun...for FREE.

“A House in Mourning”, Noble House Display   8/1/2008 –10/31/2008 at Nobel House, Fish Creek
Returning by popular demand is the Victorian Funeral Customs display and presentations. So, popular, we have heard people are “just dying to attend.” Come join us for this, if not lively, then informative and enjoyable event.
Check the Noble House schedule of Open Hours for this event in the months of July and August. The display will feature artifacts and explain the customs of Victorian Home Funerals. Look for the black crape draping at the front door.
During regular museum hours during the months of August –October.

“’Whad’Ya Know” - live radio at its best.   8/2/2008 at Door County Auditorium
A fun filled Heritage Day comes to us through WI Public Radio’s live broadcast of “Whad’Ya Know” with host Michael Feldman. This show has been around the United States offering entertainment highlighting insights from many communities. August 2nd, at 9:30AM, is the day Michael visits the Town of Gibraltar and villages of Fish Creek, Juddville and Maple Grove. Whad’Ya Know will be in Fish Creek at the Door County Auditorium uncovering personalities, stories from our “Yesterdays, Todays and Tomorrows.” Ya Know he will do this with his folksy,special flavor of humor all for the enjoyment of audiences present and listening from afar. What a great opportunity to share our Heritage Day with the listening audience. Join us...’Ya Know“...its gonna be an exceptional, fun-filled Heritage Day.

“Talking Tombstones”   8/5/2008 at Peninsula Park Cemetary (s)
In cooperation with the Friends of Peninsula State Park and the Gibraltar Historical Association the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year Celebration will offer a day when costumed folks will be grave side to offer historical recollections of those interred there, in memorium, of our deceased history makers who have left us much to talk about.
Time: 10:00AM - 12:00. Place: Bossomberg Cemetary, Peninsula State Park. Suggested, free will offering, $2.00.

150th Barn Dance & “Fly-in.”   8/9/2008 at Settlement Courtyard Inn Barn, 9128 Hwy. 42.
Come to the Barn, dance the night away: Dance Caller Tim Jenkins, Sugar on the Floor Barn Dance Orchestra music, beverages and fun times will help you find your way into some new and not-so-new steping and clapping in the barn at the Settlement Courtyard Inn. Our host: Marise Redmond and her family have been part of the orchard and lodging and restaurant and art and dance and entertainment and just about anything good about Fish Creek. She invites you to step lively or just listen to the music. Bring a smile. Proceeds will go to help the Gibraltar Historical Association’s mission and to do this again next year. “You All Come Now, You Hear.” GHA / Sesquicentennial 150th Barn Dance: Live music, Dancing, and Old Fashion Fun Saturday, August 9th. 6:30 –9:30 P.M.

“The Tales of Twin Lighthouses”   8/13/2008 at Gibraltar Fire Station, 3496 Hwy F, Fish Creek
Captain Joel Blahnik will present an informative history on how our twin Eagle Bluff & Chambers Island Lighthouses have protected navigators in the waters arround Fish Creek for nearly a century and a half.
Starting at 7;30 PM, this event is part of the “Gibraltar Talks” series, sponsored by the Gibraltar Historical Association and in collaboration with the Sesquicentennial / 150th Celebration Year. 7:30 P.M. Gibraltar Fire Station, Hwy F Fish Creek. Refreshments following the program. Free Will donations appreciated.

“A Painted History of Fish Creek - Encore!   9/5/2008 –9/30/2008 at Link Gallery, Door County Auditorium
Encore! Encore! That’s what the 150th Celebration committee heard in May and June when “A Painted History of Fish Creek” premiered at the Peninsula Art School. True, as of June 14th, the Hotz and Affelbach family components to the “Painted History of Fish Creek” exhibit have been returned to their family locations. However, Andrea Kinsey-Jauquette, the creating artist for the recently created works, has been gracious to our request to collaborate with the Gibraltar Schools and Door County Auditorium to once again present many of the key components to the Fish Creek village scenes taken from her childhood years growing up in Fish Creek. Starting September 5th, Andrea will utilize the exhibit as the basis for programs to be presented to the student body in the Fall semester as a means of instilling an appreciation for the historical and artistic dememsions of these works. Encore participants can view the collection during Door County Auditorium open hours until September 30th.

“Radio Stories” & GHA Annual Meeting   9/9/2008 at Old Town Hall, Fish Creek
This event is part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year of Celebration. Join us for this enjoyable evening event.

150th Concert - Curly’s Vacation Home.   9/13/2008 at Noble Square.
The Hartland orchestra will design their repetoire to make sure the history and not-so-historical musical themes of the evolving years are brought forward for audience enjoyment. We will work around the Packer Game times.

With over 50 years of band business Orv brings his seven piece band to town to help celebrate our 150th in style, the style of old time music with German and Czech vocals. These fine musicians offer a variety of music for all ages and occasions as well as Ethnic oriented pieces. You will hear band members harmonizing their playing skills sharpened with bands the likes of: The Gene Heier Orchestra, the Dick Rogers Orchestra, Russ Zimmerman, Gene Labotte, and Jay Wells’ Red Raven Orchestra...sounds from the musical Yesterdayss, we all enjoyed...and should learn about in our Heritage Days of Today. Bring a chair, blanket for a fun and relaxing time in the park. Join us from 2:00 to 4:00PM on Saturday September 27th.
