Heritage Days / 150th Updates.
Caputured in a Heritage Days concept the 150th Year celebrations, events and projects are many fold with appeal for not only local residents but also the many visitors. You will find activities spread across the entire year. Return frequently to the www.Gibraltar150.org Web site for updates and changes. For you to become a vital part of this history making year the web site has ways to facilitate your involvement by contributing “Your Stories” and “Your Predictions.”

“Picture Show” Series.
“Picture Shows” will be offered on an alternate months schdule throughout the 150th Year. This project is a method of soliciting, electronically archiving and sharing the growing collection of historical photographs of the Gibraltar Historical Association.

Walking Tour,Selfguided, Fish Creek
As part of the 150th Year-long celebration “A Self Guided (Walking) Tour of Historical Fish Creek“ will be offered through the sale of Guide books.

A Painted History of Fish Creek
“A Painted History of Fish Creek” celebrates’Gibraltar’s Sesquicentennial at the Peninsula Art School. May 3- June 14;opening reception May 3rd, 5 - 7pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Andrea Kinsey-Jauquet’s paintings are joined by the works of plein air artists and former Fish Creek summer residents, Alice Apfelbach and Ferdinand Hotz.

“The Life and Times of Jessie Thorp”
Join us at 7:30 PM at the Guenzel Gallery, of the Peninsula Art School located at 3900 County F, Fish Creek for an enjoyable evening from “Yesterday.” As part of the Gibraltar Historical Association’s “Gibraltar Talks” Series and the Sesquicentennial/ 150th Heritage Days Calendar of Celebrations, Kathleen Harris, local resident and Peninsula State Park Naturalist presents “The Life and Times of Jessie Thorp”, a significant figure for Fish Creek and the Town of Gibraltar history.

Gibraltar Schools Concert / 150th
Featued as part of the Concert will be the premiere performance of the Sesquicentennial’s Commemorative Musical Work. This is a special event recognizing the musical contributions in the past and present that the Gibraltar School system has provided to our community.

Postal Services 150
During June our community’s history related to Postal Services will be featured through written works, photographs, commemorative stamps and post cards, and a special Sesquicentennial keepsake “Post Mark Days” on June 20 and 21st as a way of paying tribute to the consistent work tgat has kept residents and visitors connected to the world beyond the peninsula.

Paddle Fest - 2008
June 14, Saturday, the Nicolet Beach Boat, Bike Rentals and Concessions folks will again sponsor Paddle Fest as a way to try out Kayaks and Canoes, free. The 150th sees this event as a way to reconnect with the days before engines pushed boats through the water; paddles only for Paddle Fest...and fun. To help celebrate another Heritage Day for our 150th Year this annual show is part of Fish Creek.

Of all the Heritage Days for this 150th Year...this is THE SPECIAL “Signatire Event” “Heritage Day” for the Sesquicentennial Year and includes: Dock House Dedication, Nobel House Museum Education Center Dedication, Heritage food treats,a Brass Band Concert at Nobel House Square and Commeorative Postal Stamping amongst other activities.

Rural Scenes by Mary Blotti, Artist
Starting at 1:00 PM, as part of our Signature Event Heritage Day celebrations on June 21st Mary Blotti Anderson, a local Fish Creek artist, offers her recently completed farming scenery paintings at the newly dedicated Noble House Education Center in Fish Creek.

Newtonburg Brass Band Concert
The Newtonburg Brass Band, a re-creation of an ealy 1900’s small town brass band will help us bring in Summer, on this Summer Solstice of 2008, our Sesquicentennial 150th Year. We expect the music to go from 2-4:00 following dedication ceremonies for the new Education Center and the shoreline Dock House, in the morning.

Dock House Dedication Celebrations.
As part of the Sesquicentennial Heritage Days Celebration Year the Town of Gibraltar Dock House has been remodeled in keeping with it’s historical character. Please join us in Fish Creek for Dock side dedication ceremonies in Fish Creek. The time of the Dedication and other offerings will be announced in the future; check back for details. The weekend will take on a historical profile, look for the surprises and traditions.

Noble House Education Center Dedication
As part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th Heritage Day Celebrations the Noble House museum complex will dedicate and provide an open house to the newly completed educatioin center building and offices for the Gibraltar Historical Association (GHA). Festivities include the Newtonberg Brass Band from 2-4:00PM. The specific time for the dedication ceremonies will be announced in future updates to this event posting.

5th of July Fireworks
as part of the Sesquicentennial Year of Heritage Days Celebrations Fish Creek Civic Association will offer a grand display of F*i*r*e* W*o*r*k*s* at sunset. The day will offer food and bevrages and music at Clark Park.

“The Lure and Lore of Gibraltar”
Nobel House Docent, Jim Talmadge, will encourage us to appreciate this part of Door County with a Gibraltar perspective, beyond Fish Creek, in his stories and picture presentation. This is a part of the Gibraltar Historical Associations’s Gibraltar Talks Series in conjunction with the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year of Celebrations.
Join us at 7:30 for this enjoyable evening.

Cherry Land A’s Auto Show...the ’30s.
As part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year Celebrations and in cooperation with the Gibraltar Historical Association vintage automobiles will be on display arroud Fish Creek for visitors and local folks in Fish Creek. The automobiles will, no doubt, bring back many memories and educate us on the fine styles of our transportation history that was wittnessed in gone-by years in Fish Creek. The event starts at 11:00AM and closes at 4:00PM.

Hay Fever - Peninsula Players Birth
Peninsula Players will present an excerpt from Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, the inaugural Players production from 1935, in the original location, behind the Bonnie Brook Cottage/Motel in Fish Creek (now the Fish Creek Park). This event is TENTATIVE and will be a FREE / complementary Sesquicentennial Celebration event. TIME: to be set, check for updates.

“A House in Mourning”, Noble House Display
Featuring Customs of Victorian Funerals the Nobel House staff will have on display and offer experiences that families provided for deceased loved ones in days gone by. This is part of the Sesquicentennial / 150th Celebration in collaboration with the Gibraltar Historical Association.

“’Whad’Ya Know” - live radio at its best.
WI Public Radio (WPR)and Michael Feldman will be at the Door County Auditorium on Saturday morning, at 9:30AM to broadcast live. Whad’ We Know is that he will guide the morning in an entertaining fashion through the many Heritage Days celebrations, stories from the audience from Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Ticket are available from the Door County Auditorium.

“Talking Tombstones”
In cooperation with the Friends of Peninsula State Park and the Gibraltar Historical Association the Sesquicentennial / 150th Year Celebration will offer a day when costumed folks will be grave side to offer historical recollections of those interred there, in memorium, of our deceased history makers who have left us much to talk about.
Look for time and places at we near August.

Sesquicentennial Barn Dance
As part of the 150th, a good old fashion barn dance is to be had. Join us in the Barn at the Settlement Courtyard Inn grounds for this event that was a fun-filled evening last year at another barn. We like barns! Dance instructions will be part of the evening. Dance starts at 6:30, ends 9:30PM

“The Tales of Twin Lighthouses”
Starting at 7:30 PM, enjoy a presentation on the history of navigator protection X 2 for our twin Township Lighthouses. Personable Captain Joel Blahnik will present this popular and informative history as part of the Gibraltar Talks Series sponsored by the Gibraltar Historical Association.
